Venice, oh Venice. I had huge expectations when arriving to this dreamy city. When looking at these pictures, almost 9 months later, I realise I am still holding on to that fairytale-like illusion. However, when remembering the massive crowds filling the main streets and areas, in which it was impossible to not feel some kind of anxiety, I have to admit the illusion of Venice was broken rather quickly. Of course the city was full of beautiful details, charming buildings, lovely small streets and other sweet things, but an unfortunate opposite was given by the crowds already mentioned and the slightly decayed buildings. It felt like the gorgeous city would have been ruined by it’s own fame and like the tourist masses would have stolen its soul and depth.

 As a whole Venice was still a lovely experience and I cannot deny, that the city is totally worth seeing. Weirdly I would like to claim most lovely experience there was experiencing Venice by night. During both of the evenings of the weekend we spent in the city, we walked down to the harbour of the city, where we could watch over the beautiful Mediterranean sea, the moon, the stars and the beautiful lights of the near-by islands. The moments on the verge of the see, while the soft, night wind was blowing definitely became a part of the collection of moments which have taken my breath by their beauty in my life this far.

The things that I absolutely recommend in Venice and which I would encourage everyone to see and experience are the museum built in Peggy Guggenheim’s former home, the palace of the Doge and the small lovely side streets. During the weekend I felt like Venice was most real when adventuring around these tiny little streets and also during the gondola ride in the water. It was wonderful to glide around the canals and look at the charming surrounding!

//   Venetsia, oi Venetsia. Vaalin mielessäni suuria odotuksia saapuessani tähän unelmanomaiseen kaupunkiin. Näitä kuvia katsellessani huomaan säilyttäväni sen tarunomaisen illuusion, mutta kun muistelen pääkatuja täyttävää väentungosta, jossa ei voinut olla ahdistumatta, on pakko myöntää että illuusio todellisuudessa särkyi varsin vakavasti. Kaupunki oli toki täynnä kauniita yksityiskohtia, hurmaavia rakennuksia, ihania pikkukatuja ja kaikkea muuta ihanaa, mutta valitettavana vastakohtana toimi kuitenkin mainitsemani ihmismassat ja hieman ränsistyneet rakennukset. Tuntui siltä kuin kaupunki olisi kadonnut omaan tunnettavuuteensa ja kuin turistimassat olisivat riistäneet siltä sen sielun ja syvyyden.

Venetsia kokonaisuutena oli kaikesta huolimatta aivan ihana kokemus enkä tietenkään voi kieltää sitä, etteikö kaupunkia ehdottomasti kannattaisi nähdä. Ihanimmaksi kokemukseksi tahtoisin, hassua kyllä, nostaa yöllisen Venetsian, jota en kuitenkaan onnistunut tallentamaan kameralle. Kumpaisenakin viikonlopun iltana kävelimme Venetsian rannalle, josta näkyi ihana Välimeri, kuu, tähdet sekä läheisten saarten kauniit valot. Hetket suunnattoman meren rannalla pehmeän, yöllisen tuulen puhaltaessa kuuluvat ehdottomasti niiden hetkien joukkoon, jotka ovat tähänastisen elämäni aikana saaneet minut haukkomaan henkeä kauneudellaan.

Asiat, jotka Venetsiassa kannattaa mielestäni ehdottomasti kokea ja nähdä ovat Peggy Guggenheimin kotiin rakennettu museo, Dogen palatsi sekä pienet sivukadut. Viikonloppumme aikana koin, että aidoimmillaan Venetsian sai kokea juuri näillä sivukaduilla seikkaillessa sekä tietenkin myös sen legendaarisen gondoliajelun aikana. Oli ihanaa lipua pitkin hiljaisia kanaaleja ja katsella viehättäviä rakennuksia!
