Last night we finally arranged the dinner we’ve been planning to have together with Matilda! We’ve been thinking about arranging a dinner like this for months now, but this was the first time we actually had the time to make it work. Unfortunately not even now did everyone make it, but we still had a really nice evening. Even though the ordinary everyday and work for the upcoming entrance examinations continues tomorrow, I gotta say that arranging a dinner like this truly brought the festivity and cheerfulness to my life that I’ve been missing for a while now!

 

The evening was a success in almost all possible ways: the food was great, the table setting was really pretty and I think (and hope) that everyone had a nice time. We started our dinner with a carrot soup, followed by salmon, mashed potatoes and a hollandaise sauce – a dish that is incredibly tasty yet easy to cook. As a dessert we had a chocolate-raspberry cake made by Matilda, that neither could be described as anything else but delicious.

 

 What comes to decorating and setting the table, I have to say that finding a tablecloth in paper at the local supermarket really made things a lot more simple than they could have been. It might not sound very classy, haha, but we didn’t have a white tablecloth, and it really was a very good solution! The roll cost around 5 euros and there was plenty left even after using what we needed, and thus I think I can assure all of you this is something we’ll also use in the future! We’ve been thinking about throwing at least one more dinner party before moving away from our hometown in August, perhaps as a BBQ party or something… We’ll see!

 

What also made decorating quite a lot easier was the fact that we chose a colour theme to follow. Matilda had bought napkins in Spain, and since we wanted to use them we did our best to find matching balloons and flowers. We had a true “first world problem”-moment at some point, since we really couldn’t decide what was the best way to fold the napkins, but luckily I remembered our duck shaped napkin rings! They really brought a nice and personal detail to the setting and at least I think they kind of finalised the setting. Over all I love setting and decorating tables! Even though cooking can be quite nice too, laying tables, planning flower arrangements and place cards etc. is so much more fun!

 

Even though the food and decorations are important, the most important part of any party is for sure the people. This time we had decided to dine in a slightly smaller company, which made cooking considerably much more easier. Even though I’d love to invite 20 people and more to dine every time I have the chance, I do have to admit that there was quite a lot to do even with this company of 8 😀 Once we’d finished our meal we in fact had a few more guests, which at least I thought was really nice. Somehow it’s always a pleasure to be surrounded by other people, since I think my everyday life is every now and then slightly too much about working alone. Anyway, overall I think we did quite well with this dinner, hope that everyone had a nice time and can’t wait to arrange the next ones!

 

This Sunday has been spent playing, sleeping and eating. Since it’s election day today I also vent voting, I think it’s important to vote since we’re lucky enough to live in a country where we have the chance to. It took me quite a while to make my decision what comes to who I wanted to vote for, but I think I’m quite happy with my choice of candidate. Now I’ll try to do a little bit of cleaning, prepare a few posts for next week and then wait for the election results and perhaps also watch my favourite Finnish model competition. Eilen järjestimme vihdoin kauan kaavaillun illallisen yhdessä Matskun kanssa! Näiden järjestämistä ollaan suunniteltu jo jonkun aikaa, mutta vasta nyt saimme ne vihdoin toteutettua. Nytkään ihan kaikki kutsutut eivät ikävä kyllä päässeet paikalle, mutta ihanaa meillä silti oli. Vaikka tästä jatkuukin taas tavallinen arki ja puurtaminen kohti pääsykokeita, on kyllä pakko sanoa, että illalliset ja niiden järjestäminen tuo tervetullutta juhlavuutta ja piristystä kaiken keskelle! 

 

Ilta oli kaikin puolin onnistunut: ruoat maistuivat hyvälle, pöydästä tuli aivan ihana ja kaikki tuntuivat viihtyvän. Illan ruokailu aloitettiin porkkanakeitolla, jota seurasi uunissa kypsennetty lohi, perunamuusi ja hollandaisekastike – ruokalaji, jota voittanutta en kyllä tähän mennessä ole löytänyt, se on aina yhtä hyvää ja helppoa laittaa. Jälkkäriksi Matsku leipoi suklaa-vadelmakakun, josta tuli kertakaikkiaan herkullinen  – vadelma ja suklaa on kyllä voittamaton yhdistelmä. 

 

Mitä pöydän koristeluun ja kattamiseen tulee, täytyy kyllä todeta että tällä kertaa hommaa helpotti huomattavasti Citymarketista löydetty “pöytäliinarulla”, josta saatiin vaivatta sileä ja siisti valkoinen pöytäliina. Materiaali taisi olla jotain paperinsuuntaista, mutta toimi tosi hyvin – meiltä ei kotoa löydy valkoista pöytäliinaa, ja vaikka aluksi harkitsimme valkoisten lakanoiden käyttämistä pöytäliinana, tyssäsi sekin suunnitelma siihen, että kaikki lakanat olivat väärän kokoisia, värisiä tai niissä oli kuminauhakiristykset (joilla ne helpommin siis saa kiinni patjoihin…). Pöytäliinarulla maksoi noin 5 euroa ja liinaa jäi jäljelle vielä ensi kerrallekin, joten sinänsä voin kyllä taata, että tästä löydöstä hyödytään vielä tulevaisuudessa. Matskun kanssa ollaan visioitu, että pyritään järjestämään ainakin vielä yhdet dinnerit ennen elokuista muuttoa pois kotikaupungista – ehkä grillijuhlien muodossa. Silloin kattauksen voisi ehkä yrittää siirtää ulos…

 

Koristelua helpotti myös väriteeman valitseminen. Matsku oli tuonut servetit syksyllä Espanjasta, ja koska niitä halusimme käyttää, pyrimme löytämään niihin sopivia kukkia ja ilmapalloja. Servettien asettelua pähkäiltiin jonkin aikaa, kunnes vihdoin muistin hopeiset sorsanmalliset servetinpidikkeet. Niistä tuli hauskat yksityiskohdat, ja jotenkin ne omalla tavallaan ainakin omasta mielestäni viimeistelivät kattauksen. Kaiken kaikkiaan kattaminen ja pöydän koristeleminen on kyllä lempihommaani. Vaikka ruoanlaittokin on ihan mukavaa, pöydän laittaminen ja paikkakorttien sun muiden suunnittelu on kyllä parasta koko valmisteluprosessissa. 

 

Kaikkein tärkeintä juhlassa kuin juhlassa on kuitenkin varmasti seura. Tällä kertaa olimme päättäneet illallistaa vähän pienemmällä seurueella, mikä helpotti huomattavasti kokkaamista. Vaikka mieluusti kutsuisin aina 20 ihmistä syömään Winner Dinnerien tyyliin, täytyy kyllä sanoa, että jo tässä 8 hengen seurueessa riitti tekemistä 😀 Kun ruoat oltiin saatu syötyä saatiin kuitenkin hiukan lisää vieraita, mikä oli ainakin omasta mielestäni tosi kiva, jotenkin on aina yhtä kiva olla ihmisten keskellä, kun arki muuten usein menee helposti yksin puurtamiseksi. Kaiken kaikkiaan tämä keväinen illallinen onnistui tosi hyvin enkä malta odottaa seuraavien järjestämistä!

 

Tämä sunnuntai onkin sitten kulunut soittaen, löhöillen ja syöden. Kävin myös äänestämässä – täytyyhän äänivelvollisuus täyttää, kun sellainen kerran on. Oma ehdokas ei tällä kertaa löytynyt kovinkaan helposti, mutta loppujen lopuksi olen kyllä ihan tyytyväinen valintaani. Nyt yritän hiukan siivoilla, valmistella postauksia ensi viikolle ja sen jälkeen taidan syventyä katsomaan Mallikoulua ja sen jälkeen käpertyä sänkyyn. Ihanaa vaalisunnuntaita kaikille!

‘
