Tammikuun toiseksi viimeisen päivän kunniaksi ajattelin, että saattaisi olla hauskaa pohtia, mitä kaikkea vuoden 2019 ensimmäisen kuukauden aikana tuli tehtyä!

Olin töissä Tampereella. Pääosa tammikuusta tuli vietettyä Tampereella! Sain kahden kuukauden sijaisuuden Tampere Filharmoniaan, ja sen johdosta olenkin reissanut Helsinki-Tampere väliä lähes päivittäin kuluneen tammikuun aikana. Ennestään osasin jo odottaa hauskoja työviikkoja, mutta lämmin vastaanotto on kyllä yllättynyt. Vaikka joka viikon ohjelma ei välttämättä ole iskenyt ihan 100%, on silti ollut ihanaa soittaa ammatti-orkesterissa hienojen muusikkojen kanssa ja esiintyä loppuunmyydylle salille viikko toisensa jälkeen. Ihan parasta!

Olin motivoitunut. Vuosi lähti ryminällä käyntiin ja olen ollut (ja olen edelleen) motivoituneempi ja enemmän innoissani kaikesta kuin mitä olen ollut vuosiin. Innostuksen keskellä haluaisin harjoitella ihan suhteettoman suuria määriä, ja tammikuussa olenkin yrittänyt löytää sopivaa tasapainoa töiden, harjoittelun ja tavallisen elämän välille. Helmikuussa aion jatkaa samaan malliin, mutta yritän paremmin pitää kiinni myös vapaailloista ja muiden ihmisten näkemisestä.

Piipahdin Lontoossa. Heti vuodenvaihteen jälkeen lähdin käymään poikaystäväni luona Lontoossa. Töiden takia tammi- ja helmikuu ovat meille molemmille kiireistä aikaa ja näin ollen oli ihana viettää yhteinen pitkä viikonloppua ennen koko rulianssin alkamista. Lontoossa ihastutti tällä kertaa lauhkea ilma sekä Greenwich, eli alue, jolla tällä kertaa pääasiallisesti oleskeltiin. 

Luin Tohtori Jekyll ja Herra Hyde:n ja tapasin kirjakerhon toista kertaa. Tammikuustani kertoo aika paljon se, että Lontoon matkaa lukuunottamatta kuukauden kohokohta oli Jodelissa muodostetun töölöläisten kirjakerhon toinen tapaaminen 😀 Tohtori Jekyll ja Herra Hyde yllätti positiivisesti, kirjakerhomme sai uuden jäsenen ja seuraavana vuorossa on Margaret Atwoodin The Handmaid’s Tale – Orjattaresi. Tuntuu ihanalta taas lukea, enkä malta odottaa, että pääsen lukemaan menestyssarjan inspiroinutta kirjaa!

Suunnittelin tulevaa kevättä ja kesää. Historiallisen lumisesta tammikuusta huolimatta kevättä alkaa jo olla rinnassa ja olen tapani mukaan suunnitellut elämää eteenpäin jo monia kuukausia. Keväästä tulee melko kiireinen töiden, mestarikurssejen ja muiden projektien vuoksi, mutta sen loputtua edessä odottaa kesä, josta toivon pystyväni varaamaan ainakin kuukauden Lontoossa asusteluun, omaan harjoitteluun, yhdessäoloon ja lepäilyyn. 

Tällaista siis tammikuussa! Aika työpainoitteisen tammikuun jälkeen seuraa pitkälti samankaltainen, muutamalla matkalla höystetty helmikuu.

// In honor of the second to last day of January I thought it might be nice to reflect back on the past month a bit. 

I worked in Tampere. Most of January was spent travelling between Helsinki and Tampere! I got a two month contract in Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra for January and February. From experience I knew I could expect fun work weeks, but the warm welcome I’ve received still managed to catch me by surprise. Even though I haven’t loved every weeks program as much as usual, it’s been a joy to play with great musicians and perform to a sold out concert hall week after week. 

I was motivated. The year started with quite a rush and I’ve been (and still am) more motivated and excited than I’ve been in years. In the midst of all this motivation I have a tendency to practice huge amounts, and this January I’ve mostly been struggling trying to find a functioning balance between work, practicing and just normal life. Let’s say it’s mostly been about the two first mentioned… 😀 In February I’m aiming to keep on rolling like this, but still try to take better care of having breaks and seeing people. 

I visited London. Right after the year changing I went to visit my favourite boy in London. The beginning of the year has turned out to be quite busy for the both of us and it was great to get to spend a peaceful long weekend together before it all beginning. This time London charmed me with it’s warm weather and with Greenwich, the beautiful area where we lived. 

Read Doctor Jekyll and mr. Hyde and met up with our bookclub for the second time. Saying that the highpoint of my January was the meeting of our bookclub (after my London trip of course) probably helps you understand how exciting my month indeed was, lol 😀 Our first book, Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde was a pleasant surprise, our book club got a new member and next up is Margaret Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale. It feels great to be reading again and I’m looking forward to reading the book that is behind one of the most talked about series of the past years.

Planned the upcoming spring and summer. Despite the historically snowy January I’m already feeling spring vibes and have as usual planned my life several months forward. The spring will be busy mostly with a lot of playing, masterclasses and other projects, but after that there is a long and hopefully warm summer awaiting. I hope to be able to spend at least a month in London, just practicing, enjoying life, resting and  spending time with my favourite. So, no matter how heavy this spring might eventually get, there is, for sure, quite a price waiting for me in the end.

So that was my January! It was mostly about work (aka play, haha), and next coming up is a very similar February.
